With this homemade version of KFC Fried chicken, you don’t need to go outside to enjoy your favorite takeout. You can whip up this iconic recipe in your kitchen with minimal ingredients and effort.
First, apply deep cuts on the chicken to ensure the marinade or seasoning penetrates evenly.
Throw the chicken into a mixing bowl. Add salt, vinegar, and a cup of water. Cover the bowl and let the chicken rest for 20 minutes.
Next, remove the water from the bowl. Marinate the chicken with salt, red chili powder, garlic powder, and ginger powder. Add a pinch of food color if desired—it's optional, but I use it because my kids love the vibrant, spicy look. Let the chicken rest for at least 3 hours to let the flavors infuse and the meat become tender.
Now, take an all-purpose flour in one small bowl and clean water in another bowl. First, coat the chicken in flour and leave it in the water bowl. And then again coat with flour. Make sure to shake off the excess flour.
Heat the oil in the pan, and fry the chicken until it becomes golden. Make sure to keep the flame medium during the frying process. It might take around 12 to 14 minutes to cook perfectly.
