Ingredients
  

For the Cupcakes:

  • 1 ¼ cups 160g all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup 115g unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup 150g granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup 120ml buttermilk, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon red food coloring

For the Cream Cheese Frosting:

  • 8 ounces 225g cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup 115g unsalted butter, softened
  • 3 ½ cups 440g powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
  • Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla.
  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and buttermilk mixture to the batter. Stir in food coloring.
  • Divide batter into liners and bake for 18-20 minutes. Cool completely.
  • Beat cream cheese and butter until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla to make frosting.
  • Frost cupcakes and decorate as desired.
